Moiré Patterns from a CCD Camera - Are They Annoying Artifacts or Can They be Useful?

چکیده
When repetitive high frequency patterns appear in the view of a charge-coupled device (CCD) camera, annoying low frequency Moiré patterns are often observed. This paper demonstrates that such Moiré pattern can useful in measuring surface deformation and displacement. What is required, in our case, is that the surface in question is textured with appropriately aligned black and white line gratings and this surface is imaged using a grey scaled CCD camera. The characteristics of the observed Moiré patterns are described along with a spatial domain model-fitting algorithm that is able to extract a dense camera-to-surface displacement measures. The experimental results discuss the reconstruction of planar incline and curved surfaces using only a coarse 33 lines per inch line grating patterns printed from a 600 dpi printer.

Moiré Reduction Using Inflection Point and Color Variation in Digital Camera of No Optical Low Pass Filter
The role of an optical low-pass filter (OLPF) in a digital still camera is to remove the high spatial frequencies that cause aliasing, thereby enhancing the image quality. However, this also causes some loss of detail. Yet, when an image is captured without the OLPF, moiré generally appears in the high spatial frequency region of the image. Accordingly, this paper presents a moiré reduction met...
متن کاملInstantaneous velocity displacement and contour measurement by use of shadow moiré and temporal wavelet analysis.
A temporal wavelet analysis method is proposed for velocity, displacement, and three-dimensional surface-profile measurement of a continuously deforming object by use of the shadow moiré technique. A grating is placed close to a deforming object, and its shadow is observed through the grating. The moiré fringe patterns, generated by the interference of the grating lines and their shadows, are c...

One of the common problems in the medical parasitology laboratory is the differentiation of parasites from other elements in the stool and body fluids so-called "artifacts". Artifacts are an integral part of the diagnosis pr...
